Visa & Entry Permit

Before visiting Bhutan, all visitors (except from those from Bangladesh, India, and the Maldives) must get a visa. Payment of the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a prerequisite for applying for a visa.Â

  • Tourists who are paying in US dollars pay USD 100 per person each night.
  • The SDF is exempt for children of 5 years and below.
  • Children aged 6 to 12 are eligible for a 50% concessionary levy rate. The full SDF rate is payable by anybody over the age of twelve.

Indian visitors need a permit. You can also apply at the point of entrance, however please be advised that the amount of applications at that time may result in a lengthy wait.

If you are applying for a permit on arrival, you will need:

  1.  Passport-size photo.
  2.  Insurance for the duration of stay. ( You can prearrange or purchase on arrival)
  3. Your SDF would be Rs. 1200/- per night.

When going on a trek, guests must camp in the approved regions only or stay in lodging that has been approved by the Department of Tourism.
